Chris, I'm partial to Nikon and Canon. I bought 2 of my daughters Nikon D90's. It is within your price range. Body lists for $900. Should be able to get a good deal online, just watch who you deal with. Some of these characters try to sell you the whole store. I usually end up using B&H Photo. No hassles and a fair price
