![]() I have a 1994 23 Classic and need to throw a motor on the old girl but have a small budget and can't repower with something new. I have a few lead on a Yamaha 225 but not sure what kind of performance I would get. If anyone has a 225 please let me know what type of fuel consumption/speed you get.

Fully loaded with a full tank and 2 people, I can hit 46mph, sucking down the gas (close to 30 gph). With just me and a light load and 1/4 tank I can just touch 50. My cruise is ~35mph at ~4000rpm at 14gph from what I remember

![]() I have a 99 23 classic that I am going to re-power. I have a OX66 250 2 stroke on it now. I was advised by friends with similar boats and boat mechanics if going with a four stroke engine to go with a 300Hp as I would be dissapointed with the performance of the 250. The only other option if you are on a budget is find a used newer model 250 2 stroke to keep you boat performing the same. A 225 is definitely underpowering that beast.

![]() 250HP is under powered, 225 is significantly underpowered, these are heavy boats. 300hp minimum, there are times i wish i did twin 200 or a 350hp single

![]() the OX66 on my 23' Classic was enough power, only used gas and oil.
I cruised at 24 knots, which is fast enough in most seas in the ocean. Last year I repowered with the F300 Yamaha. I can cruise a few more knots faster and burn 4-5 gals an hour less without a gallon of oil each day. The ride is fast enough and in a good 3-4' sea. Anyone tells you anything else wants a speed boat, which the Reg is just not. Just a great riding boat with satisfactory power, be it 300 four stroke or 250hp 2 stroke. Just my 2 cents. |
