Default pitting on t top support pipes

Anyone have any pitting on their piping that supports the fiberglass t tops?

I own a 23 2007 regulator and I'm the second owner. I have taken good care of it for the past 4 years of ownership. It came with the pitting. I have seen other regulators of around my year and seen the same thing.

I look at other brands of boats of the same vintage ( Grady White ) etc and their pipes are not pitted at all.

I'm wondering if it was the company that Regulator used at that time that didn't produce proper quality

The pitting that is there will remain but you can prevent any further pitting by applying Sheila Shine. I have been using it since purchasing my Reg and pitting has not increased.

My 2011 has it and I tried Woody's Wax and Star Brite. It still happens. Will try the Sheila Shine. Thanks Bill

Scrubbing your aluminum with a green scouring pad after each trip can help a lot, keeps it from building up.

Default alum. pitting

There is a company in so. Fla. called Show Boat Custom Coatings that makes a product to seal aluminum.(SB320) Its a bit pricey(65$)for a small bottle, and there is some labor involved, but I was happy with the results. There is a video online that shows the process. Did all the alum. in my 04 26FS with one bottle.

I second Bill's recommendation of Sheila Shine. I think I got the idea to try it from Bill on here some years ago. The only issue is you need to apply it every few weeks. I've had the boat since 2011 and apply it regularly and there hasn't been any further pitting since I bought it.

Great stuff. Did my 2000 ‘26 with it. It’s more work upfront, but no maintenance after. Just rinse with fresh water and go...
