Default Splashwell Gate Build Help

Hey Guys,

Just bought a mint 97 23 classic hull and am repowering with twin suzuki 175s. Super excited about the boat however one thing I want to add is a splashwell gate as this hull has a notched transom.

Anyone out there have advice on the best way to go about building one of these? From what I understand Regulator doesn't make them anymore.

Thank you!

I had a 2004 and the way regulator built it in that was basically 2 pieces of starboard with a piano hinge mounted on cutout of transom and another hinge that spilt the 2 pieces in half so you could fold it when it was in the down position. There were 2 slide bolts that held it in place when it was folded up. The thickness was 1/2Ē.

If I was building it I would make a template out of 1/4Ē luan plywood. Make the fit just how you want it. Trace it onto a piece of starboard and cut it exact same. Than I would split starboard in half longways and thatís where piano hinge would mount so it folds. The other piano hinge would mount on bottom. If I remember mine correctly when it folded the half would not be past the bottom splash of transom where bottom piano hinge mounts. Before you cut starboard make one out of the ply so you know itís exactly how you want it.
Good luck
