26 autopilot install

Installing an AP44 in the 26. Wondering if and where someone installed the heading sensor? I have removed the fresh water tank and thought about mounting it on the foreword bulkhead in the console.

by heading sensor, do you mean rate compass?

That is a good place. You want it as low and centered as possible. On our old 26 the factory installed it on top of the Aux Gas tank, there in the same place.

Mine is mounted under the starboard hatch where the head thru hull is. Works perfect.

Make sure it is at least 36" from the batteries

I thought it would need to be mounted on the centerline of the boat. Learn something new every day

Mine is mounted just above aux tank. Batteries are in the console. No issues.

Mine is mounted inside the battery storage area. 6 " from the port battery. No issues at all. The install doc does not mention anything about it.

This is from the P9 Installation manual;

The Precision-9 compass can be mounted on a flat surface or bulkhead, athwart ship or
along ship. Select a location that provides a solid mounting place free from vibration
(as much as possible), and as close to the vessel’s centre of roll and pitch as possible, i.e.
close to the water line. It should be as far as possible away from disturbing magnetic
interferences e.g. engines (min. 2 meters), ignition cables, other large metal objects and
particularly the autopilot drive unit. On steel hull boats, it can be mounted 0.75-1 m (2.5 -
3.3 ft) above the wheel house on a non-magnetic stand, if no other options are available

i have an AP44 with a rate compass mounted inside the console, above the water tank (which is essentially the back of the cooler seat) at the top of the console.
