Default Hudson July 30 2018

We put in some time yesterday, ran 106 miles east to fish the NE corner of the Hudson Canyon.Reports have been incredible with catches of bigeye and, yellowfin tuna. We had baits in the water @ 4am in the dark and went on the hunt. Around 7:30am a white marlin bit but after a few jumps it was free. Trolling continued with not much chatter on the vhf radio, in fact most boats had been there for almost 2 days with nothing to show for their efforts. Around 1:30 pm a few fish started biting so the action we felt was going to pick up. With 3:30 pm approaching and we are contemplating pulling the plug on this trip and........... BAM a STERLING TACKLE wide tracker gets slammed and following a few jigs of our spread we get covered up with a wolf pack of bigeyes! I believe we had 6-7 fish hooked up and after the "smoke cleared" there were 5 fish holding tight. With 4 anglers fighting their fish I alternated the 5th fish between rod holders while Jim and I cleared lines. We settled into the fight and after 15-20 mins. 1 fish pulled off at the boat winning it's freedom. I grabbed the 1 rod not being attended to and muscled a 100lb. fish to the gaff. One down 3 to go. I assisted a guest from Colorado who had never caught a tuna and within minutes his 150lb. tuna was gaffed and in the box. Not long after that fish #3 another 100lb. bigeye gave up and joined his pals in the cooler. The last fish was a demon and did everything these fish are known for, refusing to give up and putting a "whipping" on the angler. LOL Eventually the last bigeye lost it's struggle and we got it to the gaff and in the boat. this fish was every bit of 175+lbs. A job well done to get all 4 fish gaffed in less than an hour! Fishing definitely is a game of patience and as we did, we went from ZERO to HERO at the buzzer!!!! Thanks to STERLING TACKLE for producing fish catching tackle!!!!!!!

Yes sir I am. We fished midshore yesterday after getting the lackluster Hudson reports. Had some outstanding bluefin action. All wide trackers for us too.

Nice work! Heading out of GE Monday most likely inshore. Hopefully the bite stays on after this blow. Glad to hear fish are still being caught on the troll. Massey's has switched to chunk bite for the most part.
