Default Newer Honda 250 on 23 Regulator

Does anyone have a newer Honda 250 on their 23? Looking to compare the performance between that and the Suzuki 300. Obviously the 300 is better but by how much?

Default Honda

I considered this setup for my boat since the Honda 250 is reliable and affordable. It is more than enough engine to push a 23 Regulator. I went with twins mostly because of the redundancy offshore but Im happy with Hondas. Now they have the digital gauges like everyone else so its even better, and the 250s have electronic shifting and white color available.

To get a general idea of where a Honda 250 will be performance wise I looked at the performance reports from Honda's website. You may have already done so but take a look at these performance reports.

While they are not exactly regulators, they are the most similar of all the performance reports.

I wanted a Honda 250 for my Reg 23. I was concerned that my 2 stroke yammi OX66 250 was barely enough to adequately push my Reg. Going 4 stroke 250 sacred me. The regional rep at the Newport Boat Show couldn't convince me it had enough power. So I went with the Yammi F300 and couldn't be happier. When/if Honda comes out with a 300 I'd certainly look at it. But for now I am very happy with my Yammi 300.

I just went from a Yamaha F250 to a Suzuki DF300. The performance with the 250 was poor. I've just completed the break in on the 300, so I do not have a ton of hours on the motor BUT I will tell you it's a different boat with the 300. Much, much better. IMO the 250 (any 250) is just not enough ponies for the 23 Regulator.

Has anyone tested the ETEC 250 as an option for the 23?

What is your goal at the end of the day: catch fish, resale, or the way the boat feels and drives?

Most 250s and 300s have the exact same block, bore, and stroke. Just take a look at Suzuki, Etec G2, and Yamaha.

Default Scott1115: Cruise and top end numbers?

The F300 will be on my 23 in the future. Curious as to your performance number including GPH.

THanks!

This is my forever boat. My goal is everything you stated above. I was asking because I can get a really good deal on a Honda 250. If it’s a big difference I’d just pay for the 300. I was looking for some real world experience, but it doesn’t seem like a popular pair on the Regualtor.

At the end of the day, these boats were designed to cruise at 25-29 knots burning 2.5+ NPMG of fuel on a single engine. Anything it does beyond that is a bonus. Personally, if you have a good holeshot and stern lift, and your fuel burn at cruising speed is good I don't think you'll be missing the extra performance.
