Default 23 Reg. WOT (top speed)

I'm trying to buy a '10 Reg 23 with an F300. On a test run it ran 39 mph at 5500 RPMs wide open with a full tank and 2 people. It does have bottom paint that is in really bad shape, flaking multiple layers.

Does this seem reasonable? I thought it'd be faster.

You should be getting closer to 6K at WOT. Manual says WOT 5500-6000. 300 hp made at 5500 RPM.

I've seen 43 mph with 100 gallons in the boat, two people, 6000 RPMS with a F250. F300 should be upper 40s.

Thanks. The boat does have bottom paint that is in rough shape -- several layers of flaking -- but I think the numbers are extremely off. Correct me if you disagree.
It's got stock prop and engine mount to the performance bulletin. The 2010 bulletin says WOT is 5900 at 46.9 mph.

Just out of curiosity, was the motor trimmed up during sea trial? Those single engine boats literally surge ahead when they get trimmed up.

Would love to hear what a fresh coat of paint does to that boat.

Had the dealer do a compression test to be safe. Numbers came back good, so I bought the boat...also because it has low hours, good electronics and some awesome upgrades like power steering, 3-sided enclosure and the 2x tackle center. It's getting soda blasted, barrier coated and repainted this week. Will report back with performance numbers once I run it.

Just finished testing a new prop for 2018 23' with a 300. We are settling in on a QuickSilver Four Blade - Q4 14.6x17. Cruise 4500 RPM 33 MPH with 2.6 gpm fuel burn. WOT 47 MPH 5800 RPM with two men and 1/2 tank of fuel. Great hole shot. Tested in fresh water.

Any chance you feel like sharing the cost of the soda blasting. I am trying to get a quote around here to have it done. North Shore - MA. Most places here do chemical stripping at least so far.

I have a 23 Classic and need to have it done before I splash this season. Many layers of bottom paint, some flaking off too.

Thanks
Dualie

Default F225 numbers

When I purchased my boat it had the original Yam SST prop and only turned 5500. I switched over to a Mercury Enertia prop, got me into the 5900-6k range. I have seen 41 mph with a light load with this set up. THat was with a flaking, painted bottom.

I had a local guy blast the boat and I barrier coated/ablative painted. I picked up maybe 1 mph, not a big difference in my case.

If you are in the tri state area I can give you his info. Does a great job with his wet blasting system, no dust!
