You could use that, and thatís how someone tried to fix it. But the factory fitting is stainless steel and looks like it is meant to be used as wire rigging.

Try cleaning it with a real plexiglass cleaner...

Try cleaning it with a real plexiglass cleaner first, like RX Plastic Cleaner from West Marine. It is expensive but water will actually bead off of it. Avoid ammonia based cleaners as well.
